On the second day of the Wine Bloggers Conference, my palate was in fine form after spitting through a wine judging seminar, enjoying the Wines of Uruguay at lunch, and drinking nectar in the Inniskillan icewine seminar.
Again, BC’s red wine only, which was of particular interest to me given the recent evolution of heavy reds in the Okanagan Valley. Many years ago, quality varied among BC’s red wine, with some of wines tending toward greenness, but recent vintages have been ripe and full. Here was my chance to confirm my observations.
Speed Tasting Red Wines
@QuailsGate 2009 Pinot Noir. Lovely perfumy/floral nose, velvety mouth, racy and complex, notes of orange. A delight! #wbc13
1775 Bench Meritage. Elegant w/ good acidity, savory herbs make it perfect for pizza. And they’re installing pizza oven at the beach. #wbc13
Laughing Stock 2010 Portfolio. Jumpy nose of flowers, savory herbs. Deep bk fruit on broad palate w/ smooth tannin. Nice acidity #wbc13
2009 McWatters Meritage. Red/black fruity nose, big bodied, full throttle wine, with a long racy finish. #wbc13
Hillside 2009 Cab Franc. Big nose of flowers, tobacco, elegant body & balance. A femmy wine for a manly man. #wbc13
Summerhill 2006 Cab Franc. Big and rich, fresh for being 7 years old, nice tobacco, graphite notes, gr8 balance. A steak wine. Chewy! #wbc13
Mt. Boucherie 2009 Zinfandel, Similkameen Val 14.8% Floral nose, spicy palate, med body, briary red fruit, racy finish. Lotsa blk pep #wbc13
D’Angelo 2007 Setta Coppa Reserva Unfiltered (7 measures) blend. Bright red fruit, frisky and forward, a perfect pizza wine. #wbc13
Perseus 2010 Tempus Syrah with 3% viognier. Fruity, floral nose, earthy palate. Elegant and agreeable. Where’s the steak? #wbc13
Upper Bench 2011 Cab sauv 1st release. Bought 2011 from Stonehill. Perfumy, floral nose, deep flavors, full body, long finish. Yum!
