San Clemente Wine Bars

San Clemente, California ain’t what it used to be and I’m not talking about Nixon. Once a sleepy retirement village with a singe good restaurant, I recently learned that the hamlet is now considered a “party town,” overrun with surfers, Marines and cougers. Indeed, with bars clustered on El Camino Real and Avenida Del Mar, one can conveniently drink and walk here. Two new wine bars have created a Del Mar wine gulch: The Cellar and San Clemente Wine Company. Over the Memorial Day long weekend, after enjoying Hawaiian music at the Polynesian Festival on the library’s lawn, I stumbled into the SC Wine Co. for a flight of wines.
